The metal-like bronze embroidered portrait of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on a coronation monument situated at the Tamale Parks and Garden has been stolen.
It is however not known when the metallic plaque was removed from the monument as the structure has been neglected for many decades. Many believed the portrait plate was of a high mineral value.
The inscription on the stolen metal-like portrait of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth which was attached to the wall of the monument read ” King George VI and Queen Elizabeth crowned 12th May, 1937″.
The coronation monument known as Salute Stand was built in 1937, the same day King George VI was crowned the King of England by British colonialists who pitched camp in Tamale in the 19th Century.
The Salute Stand, a star-shaped walls was constructed using concrete bricks with an opening, where the portrait of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth was attached to the interior wall.
