Northern Region records 26 suspected cases of meningitis, 6 confirmed positive

The Northern Region of the country is facing a health concern as 26 suspected cases of meningitis have been reported, with 6 of them confirmed as positive.

The news was shared by the newly appointed health director for the region, Prof. Akoraya, during a meeting with the Northern Regional Minister.

Prof. Akoraya expressed his concerns about the situation, emphasizing the need for increased public awareness and education on the condition. He noted that while the confirmation of cases is troubling, the focus now is on ensuring the community is well-informed to help prevent further spread.

As part of his efforts to familiarize himself with the regional authorities, Prof. Akoraya also paid a visit to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and the Regional Minister. His visit is seen as an important step in strengthening collaboration between the health sector and regional governance to address public health issues effectively.

Meningitis, according to Prof Akoraya, is a serious infection that affects the brain and spinal cord and can spread rapidly in close-knit communities.

The Regional Health Director Prof Akoraya, is urging citizens to stay alert and seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as fever, headache, or stiff neck.
