In a remarkable show of commitment to education, the Member of Parliament for Walewale, Hon. Dr Tia Kabiru Mahama, has awarded scholarships worth GHC200,000 (equivalent to two billion in the old currency) to support the education of 148 students in his constituency.

The initiative, described by many as unprecedented in Walewale, comes at a time when Dr Kabiru’s party, the NPP, is in opposition, a fact that has made the gesture even more commendable in the eyes of his constituents.

Parents, community leaders, and beneficiaries have praised the MP’s intervention, saying it will ease the financial burden on families and inspire many young people to pursue higher education with confidence.

“This is something the people of Walewale have never experienced before,” one parent remarked. “It proves that leadership is not just about being in government, but about standing with your people when they need you most.”

Dr Tia Kabiru Mahama urged the beneficiaries to study hard and make good use of the opportunity, stressing that education remains the surest path to lifting families and communities out of poverty.

The scholarship package covers tuition fees for students across different levels of education, reaffirming the MP’s commitment to building human capital in Walewale.
